A Message from the Mulberry Street Block Association

Summer continues to bring tremendous momentum to our neighborhood. From exciting revitalization projects and new business investments to community events that strengthen public safety, there has never been a better time to get involved.

This month, we are proud to highlight two important initiatives that reflect the future of our community:

• The Chinatown Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI)

• National Night Out 2026 hosted by the NYPD 5th Precinct

Both initiatives share the same vision—bringing residents, businesses, property owners, visitors, and public agencies together to create a cleaner, safer, and more vibrant Lower Manhattan.

National Night Out Against Crime

NYPD 5th Precinct
Chinese Chamber of Commerce

This annual event gives families an opportunity to meet local officers outside of emergency situations while enjoying an afternoon of community fun.

Downtown Revitalization Initiative Update

What Is Happening?

The Downtown Revitalization Initiative continues to move forward with planning efforts focused on improving Chinatown and the surrounding neighborhoods.

The project focuses on creating:

• Cleaner streets

• Better lighting

• Improved pedestrian safety

• More public gathering spaces

• Stronger business corridors

• Cultural tourism

• Economic development

As neighbors, Little Italy and Chinatown both benefit from investments that make Lower Manhattan more attractive for residents and visitors alike.

What It Means For Our Community

 A Warm Welcome to Little Italy

Visitors to Little Italy will notice new "Welcome to Little Italy" gateway banners now displayed at multiple street corners along Mulberry Street. These installations create a stronger neighborhood identity, enhance the streetscape, and provide a warm welcome to residents and visitors from around the world.

The expanded signage complements ongoing beautification efforts and reinforces Little Italy's rich Italian-American heritage while helping visitors easily recognize one of New York City's most iconic cultural destinations.
